This remarkable set of 21 tools—including awls, axes, knives, scrapers, cores, and a hammer—was collected between 2000 and 2004 in Romania. As fossil hunters explored the numerous caves of the Romanian Valley in search of cave bear fossils, these ancient tools were unearthed. According to Steve Wilson, the former owner of the original artifacts, the tools were initially discovered by Walter Franz and later sent to a museum in Germany, where they were dated to be between 85,000 to 125,000 years old, belonging to the Mousterian Industry. Mr. Wilson subsequently acquired these tools from Mr. Franz, preserving a fascinating link to our distant past.
